Background

Audience: written for staff who work with people who hoard. Plus a section at the end, and a separate page, written for people who hoard and friends/family.ibl

The bibliography became very long, which would not be suitable for that audience, so a page of selected reference was created.

Scope

UK focus, apart from journal articles listed in PubMed, and some books.

English (human)

Not aiming to list all possible references.

Mostly for information resources, not services.

Not including policy/initiatives, except in some housing references

Not including articles about research in progress.

Recognising that UK countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and other countries have different legislation.

Limits; there will be relevant articles from journals that are not in PubMed. They may be listed on another database, but they are not free to search.

Please note

The biilography does not include references in PuMed. It is to complement that.

Searches not in PubMed

Multiple Google searches for relevant sites (eg hoarding research, hoarding housing). Following any links from those sites.

PubMed

PubMed includes the Medline database. It has additional references that have not been indexed yet. Medline is also searchable from publishers like Elsevier or Ovid.

Details about adding words or MeSH terms

In searching, AND is references having both of the terms. OR is the total amount in both (case sensitive)

The easiest way to search is;

hoarding disorder AND the word For example; hoarding disorder AND animals

more focussed

hoarding disorder [MeSH] AND animals (references from about 2013)

note that its square brackets [ ]

PubMed has an advanced search builder see video (NLM) It shows how to select an option, eg publication date.

Check out some other options eg scroll down to ‘mesh terms’.

Clicking on ‘show index’ (just below ‘add’ button) can help with choice.

Selection of resources

Articles published in a professional journal, such as ones listed in Medline. It includes ones written in any country, not just UK.

The list of Websites and books for family and friends is an exception. It was the result of a wide range of Google searching, plus Amazon. Links were followed, including ones recommended by authors. Also professional knowledge.
